Studio 483 designed the original Russell Construction headquarters 15 years prior, and they were selected to design the expanded 27,000-square-foot office incorporating enhanced features. The new Russell Headquarters 2.0 is comprised of a central open hangar work area surrounded by glass-enclosed chat rooms and meeting and conference rooms.
The entry lobby leads to the main circulation gallery bordered by a cast-in-place concrete bearing wall that both serves as the main axis of the building and the separation between the heavy timber construction on the north office rooms and the steel truss framed, high-volume hangar. The gallery leads to the board room and corporate breakroom that both overlook a manmade lake and an exterior patio. The breakroom, or Slàinte (the Irish toast to good health), also serves as alternative workspace, afterwork gathering area, and entertainment venue for clients and guests.
The exterior of the building depicts a streamlined use of masonry, cement board panels, aluminum storefront, and metal louvers with attention to natural lighting and sightlines and display of construction materials and tectonics.
